I need aa wiring diagram for an oliver Super 77G, with a factory (i think) 12 V system, i have had the generator rebuilt, installed a new regulator and replaced a few bad wires, and i still can't get it to charge, and if i hook th battery up as is, the batt wire, the regulator, and the gen wire from the regulator get hot and ammeter goes to full discharge, with the key off, when i start it, those wires cool off, but i am only showing minimal charge

I went to the shop and got a copy of instructions for installing voltage regulators. First check battert to see if it is installed as Larry said, with pos ground, then assuming the wires are right and before starting the engine the generator needs to be polarized to match the battery. "MOMENTARILY TOUTCH ONE END OF A PIECE OF WIRE TO REGULATOR TERIMINAL MARKED "ARM" or "GEN"AND THE OTHER END TO TERMINAL MARKED "BAT",THEN REMOVE. A SPARK WILL OCCUR WHEN WIRE IS REMOVED. THIS IS NATURAL." Do not toutch "FLD" terminal! regulator is ruined instantly if it happens. Another thing the regulator is marked Ground "Positive" or "Negative," and voltage is stamped on base of regulator, or marked on cover. Hope this helps. Delbert

Your cut out in regulator is sticking. Most comon cause is reversed battery polarity. Your battery should be positive ground. You will have to take cover off the reg. and open cut out points manuely then lightly file points so they will work. Cut out should close on its own when engine starts, open when it stops.
