MFD on 1950 1nd 1955

Have a 1955 2 wheel drive and an oppurtunity to buy a 1950 with MFD. Will the MFD from the 1950 fit right on the 1955? What exactly needs to be done if it is not a clean swap? Thanks

Look at the front of the transmission of the 1955 If the berring cap for the bottom shaft where the spedometer drives off. if it is long and cast odds are you have the 4 wd pinion shaft and this would accept the transfer case off the 1950. I have never seen a 1955 with out the splines for the 4 wd. We had a 1955 that had an axle off a 1900 put on it. We had to put taller tires on the front to get it to match going from an 18.4-34 on the back of the 1900 to a 18.4-38 on the 1955 required a 26" tire vs the 24" on the front If I remember right. I'd do what you want to do in a hart beat provided the axle is in good shape and 1955 has the right pinion shaft if I were in your place. be sure to make sure the steering joint housings on the MFWD axle have enuff greese in them, if not they are expensive to fix and this is commonly neglected.

You would have to probably switch the rear ends to make it work. I don't think there is any way to connect the drive shaft to the front wheel drive. The 50 should be worth more with the MFWD and has the better engine. I don't think I would switch a thing.

The rear ends are not the same.The 55 has power everything ,the 50 is all manuel. Allso the frame may be differant length's,with differant engines. You might have to get a front drive from a 55 series to make it work.
