77 S77 equipment ?

A man down the road has a complete set of 4 row cultivators,4 row planters with the boxes, and a set of busters for a regular 77. He wants $125 for the whole set. Also he has an Oliver 4 bottom mold board that is on rubber but what he did was he took 2 two bottom oliver mold boards and he put them together. He wants $50 dollars for this. I think this is a pretty good deal myself.What do you think is the going rate for this kind of stuff, and do you think I would be gettig a good deal? Also if I bought this equipment I would be using this on a S77 with hydraulics. This equipment is set up for a mechanical lift, but I think the difference is just the lifting bundles. If I changed them out would this work? Thanks.

If it was me I would buy it, in fact would pay that alone just for the planter if it is in operating condition.I would think it would be just the thing for a garden(field just big enough to make you appreciate plateless planters).
As for the plow guess you could have a parts plow never was interested in doctored up equipment.

Highboy, have you ever had any experience changing over mechanical lift equipment to hydraulic lift? Do you think it would work and also what cylinder size would I need if it did?

Hi Bob take it you bought the stuff.I have not had the chance to run any of Olivers old mechanical lift(mounted anyway)equipment.I have used a mounted four row culitavtor though although that just took a small oliver cylinder.
The size of the cylinder wouldnt matter too much I wouldnt think(stuff cant weigh that much)it would depend more on where you mounted or made the "L" bracket for the cylinder to attach too.
Another idea is to buy a 77 with the old mechanical lift,and save the s77 for loader work,you can never have too many tractors!Good luck.

Thanks highboy you have been a great help to this new Oliver Collector. I wish I had a pocket full of money to buy that other Oliver that's down the road. I guess that will have to wait till another day. Thanks again.

They aren't worth much because no one uses moldboards or four row equipment anymore. Your best bet would be to buy them and scrap them and get a little money for them because no one wants them. Sorry I had to tell you this but some one had to tell you . I hope you hav not bought them and already gotten swindled.

I hate to break this to ya, but there are people that buy stuff because they don't want historic peices of farm machinery to go to the scrap yard. I think just about all Oliver Farm machinery qualifies as historic. I understand what you are saying, but there are people that collect stuff. I would be interested in them. I think I would even buy a JD if I were the only thing that stood between it and the scrap heap.
