Have a 1955 with a Waukesha (not sure I spelled that right) Diesel. Has a Roosa pump on it. I have been through the fuel system from the filler cap to the injector pump, including the return line. It starts with just a tap of the starter switch & runs very well..... but only for a while. Doesn't matter if you're using it or just letting it idle. It will suddenly change tone & start a gradual slow down just like the filter was plugged. Once it starts this down hill run you have only about 15 to 30 seconds before it quits entirely. Changing the throttle setting once it starts this fit is of no use. Even in neutral, it will not speed up. Let it die & it will start right back up ready to pull the township off the map. Have removed the fuel line from the injector pump while it is beginning to die. Gravity is still delivering fuel to the pump faster than the pump takes it. That is the pump is not sucking on a fuel line that is restricted. I removed the return line & pressure regulator from the top of the pump. Not plugged no chunks of anything there. If I remove the return line or the regulator while it's running, considerable volumes of fuel pours out. A stream of maybe half a pencil in diameter. Kinda hard to tell. The fan blast blows it everywhere.

After all this it sure seems to me the problem is in the injector pump but I defer to those with more experience than I. I've never been inside an injector pump & find myself wondering, what's going on in there that could cause this problem? When it first starts, it's snappy & has plenty of power. I'm sure somebody out there has experienced this before & can tell me what's going on.

Thanks for any advice you may have. Right now I'll try nearly anything.

I can't tell you anything about your tractor problems , but I can let you know how I stop the fan from blowing things around. I take a piece of tyvek house wrap and let the fan hold it in front of the grill(no attaching). This will Stop! the air from blowing out the back of the radiator. Also works good for warming up tractor in the bitter cold winter.

I would definitely suspect the injector pump. Sounds like the thing needs rebuilt, also am not sure if your tractor has a lift(fuel) pump on it, but our 2-70 White has one and it had the same problems once we changed the lift pump it ran incredible. Our 2-70 has the same Waukesha without the turbo. Marc Smothers

Sound like the viscus drive ring for the governor is deteriated to the point where is has broken up and a piece of it is pluging the outlet in the cover(high housing pressure prevents the plungers from moving) thus no fuel delivery. Time to have the pump rebuilt by a authorized station.
