I am not sure why Pauls' Super 77 is hard to start, but I can attest that any 77 with a good ignition system, good carbretor, and good electrical will start as good as the best. my brother has a 1948 77 and it starts great even in cold Indiana winters (even with 6 volt system) normally one short crank of the starter and if fires right off. My brother paid about $1500.00 for his 77 with dual hydrualics and good overall condition. If the loader is installed on the tractor and is in good operating condition it could double the value of the tractor. The most important thing to consider is if the tractor is not patched up since this can make simple repairs much more costly and the value much less. I hope this is helpful.

According to my book, 1954-58, 44pto hp (both gas & diesel) and sell at auction from $285 - $1929, average being $905. But, value is hard to judge, that's just what some unseen machines sold for in the past year... ;)

I have one, like all Olivers, tough to start, but runs nice.

Switch it over to 12 volts and she will start like a dream ! It's easy to do and you will be amazed at how much easier it will start even in cold weather. I would never go back to a 6 volt system on my 1955 Super 77 gas. Still using the original 6 volt starter for 8 years on this conversion. When you think about it this is probably easier on the starter as it has 1/2 the current going through it as before. (Double the voltage and halve the current) The current and heat is what causes the problems besides it works less at starting at 12 than it did at 6.

Be carefull Paul! You are on the Oliver Discussion board.We have never had a hard starting Oliver tractor with a gas engine.

:) Oops.

We used to have a 88, now the Super 77, and my uncle had a 66 & something else, all rowcrops. As I said, several uncles on my mom's side collect them, and my wife & I even had a 4 foot cardboard 3-D Super 77 at our wedding last year (don't ask, too long a story for here...).

Here in Minnesota with the 6 volt, they can, um, have their own personalities to start. ;) But I give mine a rest over most winters, so it's not a problem for me, and obviously my family does like the deeper green machines. :)
