just bought a 77 RC, and after getin the motor up & running, I can,t get the 3 pnt hitch to operate, When I got this tractor it must have had a front end loader on it previously,becuase there was a remote lever mounted on the fender W/ a series of hoses coming off the left side of the Hyd pump ports, I capped those off,on the right side of the pump I have connected to the ram on the hitch, it seems that there is pressure building up on one port but no action on the ram,the pump housing or reservour became very warm after running the tractor a few minutes,appeares to me like i,m buildin pressure but no action, any ideas would be welcome, Thanks

Scott&Aaron, Thanks for your input on my problem, Ichecked out the front port on the left side, there is a 3/8 plug in there behind the 1/2 plug, on the left side there were four ports,normally the other tractors I have only use two ports on each side of the pump.This pump had three ports being used on the left side, the hoses had been disconnected from the remote lever mounted on the fender so i dont know exactly how it all worked. The front port on the left side i have plugged, the two center ports i have plugged,and the rear left side port i have plugged also, it must have been used for a return line as it dumps right into the inlet to the pump,after checkin out the left side i moved to the right, which is what i want to run the 3 pnt With,I took the lock nut off the restrictor screw and loosened the screw, as i did that oil began to run out, I asume that this may have been closed off, perhaps blocking the return flow from my lift ram, before i start the thing again i will wait to see if you all have any other precautions that i shuold check out as i dont want to do anymore damageto the unit,how far open do i set the restrictor screw? Thanks a bunch for your help!!!

Tracy , Ajust the restrictor screw so that the flow of oil going back to the reservor is flowing at the same rate as the presure side.(No bounce in loader).Take the screw all the way out and clean the port of any particals that may get caught in the restrictor screw.You will not notice any or little difference if plugged.And one other little thing that us Oliver owners find out the hard way is: When replacing cylinders , etc. , Cover the reservor filler cap/dip stick with a good size towel.If the air is not out of the system , it will reach the revervor and blow the filler cap off. This will give both you and the tractor an oil bath."Lets here some oil bath stories from some of you other readers out there."It's much more fun to here about it than it is to have it happen.It's even worse on a nice new paint job

The 3/8 plug in the front left side is the key. According to a oliver dealer the way to provide a "power beyond port" which is for a remote valve is to "remove the 1/2 inch pipe plug in the front left side of the base and insert a 3/8 plug inside the port. this will become your pressure port.return port should go into the front side of the upper housing near the filter." I have ran a loader and 3point hitch with my hydraulics on my 77 both ways. with and without the remote valve. I prefer the remote !!! You need to either remove the 3/8 plug which blocks the flow of oil to the resivour, or connect the front left port to another port which will return the oil to the resivour. I believe the easiest would be to remove the 3/8 plug. Your pump was getting warm because you had no oil flow, only pressure.

Tracy , It's hard to understand exactly what your situation is with out better description or looking at it.Maybe you can draw me a picture and fax it to my house at (716)335-7597. Some one rigged up there own set of controls.For some reason they may have turned the restrictor valve all the way in so that the port will be blocked.Restrictor screw is the one outlet on the hydraulic pump with the big screw and lock nut on it.Maybe your pump has been set up for single action operation.

Tracy, If your tractor was set up to run a single-acting loader, there is a good chance the pressure to run the remote loader valve was coming from the very front port on the left side. Was this the case? If so, you cannot simply plug this port. Open it back up and look inside, you will see another threaded port inside. You need to insert a 3/8" plug in the inner port before you can plug the 1/2" outer port.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all your help,Itook out the 3/8 plug, and pluged the 1/2 port,that took care of the left side as i,m not using it now,opened up the resrictor screw on the right side and my lift ram works great. Thanks again!!!!! !!!!
