I've got a Marvel-Schebler carb that I recently rebuilt on my '55 super 77. An annoying problem developed afterward. The carb now constantly drips slowly from the flood outlet on the mixing bowl. I've taken it apart to look for problem seal spots, but haven't found any. Are there problem areas on this carb? The float is adjusted properly and isn't taking on gas. My guesses are either that the main needle isn't seating properly on the jet and is letting gas by or the gasket isn't sealing the two halves properly and the fuel intake area is bypassing the fuel bowl and entering the mixing chamber. Any ideas? I'm hesitant to use gasket maker to improve the seal due to all the small openings that would likely be sealed off when tightening. Or is it as simple as a jet and needle that aren't seating properly? Thanks for your input.

The M/S carbs are really the best ones built as far as ease of rebuild is concerned. Take the carb apart again and remove the needle's seat and pay particular attention to the area where the seat screws into the housing. They will rust and pit the material away and gas will leak between the gasket and housing even though the needle is closed. Smooth that area for a good seat for the gasket and the problem should be solved upon reassembly.

Thanks for the tip. I tightened the seat yesterday after noticing it was loose and I also put a new needle in after noting the other one was slightly worn. Also adjusted the float a bit higher to see if that was possibly the problem as well. If this doesn't work, I'll check on your suggestion. That would be the only other possibility aside from the main gasket sealing the two halves being at fault. Thanks.

I'm no expert, I did just rebuild a Marvel-Schelber on my Super 55. Was getting leakage in the same way. Turned out it was a bad ferrel at the gas line and was traveling down the back of the carb. ???
