Oliver 70 engine

I have an oliver 70 that has a kaiser frazer engine in it. It has same mounts as the original engine would have. Has same stroke but has a slightly larger bore than the continental engine that would normally be in this tractor. I'm wondering if this engine was made for this tractor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Didnt some kaiser/frasier cars use continental engines.That would explain why the bolt pattern is the same.I have never owned a 70 but as far as I know only the one engine(in different versions)was offered.I agree with the others old engine was shot and they just repowered it,I would like to know what the tractor pulls on the dyno,interesting to see how much hp it has.

The engine in your tractor is most likely a repower. During and after the 2nd world war farm equipment was in verry short supply, a bad engine may not have had parts available so many tractors were repowered with auto or other engines that could be instslled easily. I have an oliver 70 with a Buda diesel, the frame had to be modified a great lot. Oliver never built their engines, if I remember correctly Continental and Waukasha built engines to Oliver specs. The Hart-Parr 70 had a five gear timing gear arrangement, the early Fleetline 70 tractors had the five gears also, the later Fleetline 70 had a three gear timing arrangement these tractors had the magneto or the distributor on the opposite side of the sparkplugs,they had a different govenor and probably some other small differences. As for the repower tractors, I tried to buy a 70 with a Chevy truck engine. The owner said his Uncle gave it to him to start farming with. He also said the tractor pulled a three bottum plow with no problem.

On a model 70 Oliver what is the advantage or disadvantage of having a 3 gear or 5 gear motor?

Delbert , don't forget , when it comes to the waukesha engine , Oliver casted the blocks along with some other parts.They then shipped the blocks to Waukesha for the internal machining work.McCoy Truck Lines did the trucking for them.

70,s came from factory with 2 differnt engines.Also one engine had 2 versions one with magneto on the left one with distbutor on right.

Larry , The only engines in the Oliver model "70" tractors that I have seen or read about is the continental engine.But , the continental engine in the standard tractors do have a different design to it , compared to the row crop tractors.Are you saying that the Oliver "70" had two different engine makes , or two different continental engines.If a different make , fill us readers in.We are all interested in what you have to say. Scott, I didn't know the RC and STD had differences in the engine, can you give details? I had a Hart Parr 70 with a magneto and it was mounted on the right side of the engine. It used a different governor and timing case, but was the same basic engine as the other 70s we have had.

Karl , I should have made my self more clear.I was talking about the front casting (governor area) of the engine , not the basic engine.Larry was talking about a complete different engine.I have not ever seen or read about a complete different engine in the Oliver "70" tractor.It has always been the continental engine as far as I know.Larry should fill us in if he knows of a complete different engine that was installed from the Oliver factory (maybe an experimental) Scott

I wrote it down wrong. You guys are right. A guy near here has 2. the engines look differnt one has the sparkplug wires waraping around rear of engine. the other they stay on one side.
