Oliver 42 crawler

I've going to look at an Oliver 42 crawler with hydraulic loader. The owner says that the "plate on the side says 42 but he can't read the rest". Neither the owner or I are literate on these so I would appreciate some help with the folLowing:
Where would I be likely to find the serial number?
If this is a Cletrac-Oliver, will the tag tell me the series (such as HG)?
Is the 42 the center-to-center of the tracks?
Allegedly the engine was rebuilt. It has been converted to 12 volts. Lift works good. One track is loose - supposedly the adjuster loosened, but the track is OK. What should I look for on problems with the tracks/rollers?
It doesn't have a PTO - is this possible/easy to add?
I assume it's too old for a 3 point, but has anyone put one on it?
How much weight can it pick up (actually, can it handle 6x4 round hay bales)?
Any other comments?

Hi,
I have a Ware Loader and the ID tag is on the side of the oil tank. The model I have is a 3-HI. The recommended ballast for the 3-HI loader on the Industrial OC-3 is 750 lbs. As far as the lifting weight of the loader, I would say a 1000 lbs lifting weight would be average. I found that when I was moving mud I had to add additional ballast to compansate for the extra weight. Moving hay bales you might have to add some extra ballist.

Serial # is on the same plate. The 42 is center of tracks to center of tracks. If the front idler has 4 holes it would be an HG. The loose track is no problem if the track adjuster screw is loose. Very few had 3 points only the late OC-3. I can't tell you exactly how much weight the loader can handle, probably 1,000# I have an HG-42 for sale with loader for 2,500 Happy to give the teck advice. Al, I saw your posting in the want adds for the HG42. I talked to you on the phone last summer about some Olivers and I was wondering how big a bucket is on that machine. I'm guessing it could hold about 1000lbs. Also, does it have teeth or is the edge smooth. I'm interested in hogging out creek gravel for our road maintenance and short of buying a skid loader, I'd though this machine might be suitable unless it is underpowered.
