: : : 1958 56-501 : : : I went out, this time with my glasses, and the serial number read 48-900-518. The SPECIFICATION number reads 25-0083. The above list looks more like the specification number than the serial number.

The manufacturers never seem to make it simple like the first tractor should be 1. : : As far as your serial number, take the first 5 numbers. I am not sure what those last three numbers refer to. I had the same problem as you when it came to reading the serial number, but the mechanic at a shop told me it was the first five digits. That would make yours a 57. : : Of the few Super 55s I have seen, the last three digits have been 518. The last three digits on the few 550s I have seen have been 519. I don't know if the 518 is for the Super 55 and the 519 is for the 550 or not. That is probably it, thanks.
