It it's a Cessna gear pump - there aren't any springs except for the one on the check-ball. It enables you to reverse rotation of the pump if wanted.

In regard to seals - if your outside seal was leaking and/or pushed out - the pump might be worn out and beyond repair. Rarely does a front seal leak without something else causing it - and often in gear pumps - it's gets pushed out. If you see wear and rub marks in the center-housing - it means presssure is bypassing the gear-faces and blowing out the front seal - for which there is no fix.

If you found a blown spider gasket in front - then you've got a change of more pump life if you replace it - as long as all else is tight.

I am going to try a different approach. Since some of those units had a Cessna built hydraulic pump take a look on the pump mounting flange. See if there are some numbers on there. If so post them and send me a U. S. mail address. I can not scan at the present time. J.

Can we assume that this is the same unit as posted below?  What model hoe do you have?  Don't know if we can help, however we will try.
