I was showing my 550 to a neighbour and he commented on the fact that it has 26 inch rims on it and that they are uncommon. He then said that 26" rims were common on old combines.

Now I'm thinking that the diamond tread "turf" tire that are on it are actually old combine tires but are the rims original?

I have an Oliver shop manual for the fleetline up to the 3 digit series but it only lists tire sizes for the super 55 not the 550. The super 55 came with either 10x28 or 12x28. My 550 currently has 14.9x26.

Just outa curiosity, what sizes were OEM for the 550?

When our Super 55 rear rims got eaten up with CC, we were able to replace them with combine rims. They even had the power adjust rails on them. Work fine.

I think most stock 550s came with 13.6-26s but many have changed to 14.9s, as they are so much cheaper to replace in modern times.

I had a look around the house and found my Operators manual.

The optional tire sizes for the 550 were:

11.2-28
12.4-28
13.6-26
14.9-26
13.0-24
14.9-24

So I guess the rims might be original. I still think the tires might be old combine tires but I don't really care. They are in OK shape and should last me a long time.

I think most 550 tractor we sold where I worked had 26 inch tires. The neghbor's have a little IH utility and they stuck a set of 26 inch tires and rims on it from a combine they were junking out. They can not adjust the wheel tread but around here in this day and age you don't do that anyway.Around here all combines had the same tire tread pattern as wheel tractors. Turf tires were an option on the tractor.

I also have 14.9-26 tires on the rear. I believe the rims and wheel weights are original.

Mine has the same size tires on the rear. Mine are in real good shape so I won't have to change one for a few years (I hope).
