Hi. I have two 4-150s and they both developed sticking injector pump solenoids this winter. Twist the key and it won't start, but eventually if you get it started, it might not stop! Ran a can of Sea-Foam through each one--and that sorta helped--but they still don't open and close like they should.

Should I replace the solenoids? They're easy to get to, right on top of that big Cat 3208 engine. But how complicated is the change? Will I have to re-time the pump if I attempt to change it?

Thanks for the help!

You might want to try removing the solenoid and checking the lever in the pump the plunger pushes against. The 3208's are notorious for the shutdown lever in the lid of the pump to bind after sitting for awhile. Just take a hook and pull it up all the way and push it down a few times and it should free up. If the lever binds, the engine will lack power. I just completely rebuilt a pump for a guy at work. It had a seized plunger and the rest had varnish on them. I ended up polishing all the pumps and reassembling it. Hope yours isn't this serious.

Changing the solenoid is as easy as removing the two bolts holding it down and unhooking the wire or wires. There's nothing complicated about it. WB
