Hi all. I am a IH man but I have always been interested in Olivers. I like big old diesels. My question is what kind of engines did they put in the 2150 and 2255? I've heard Detroit, CAT, Cummins and GM diesels. So what did they use or did they use them all just different years. I am kinda partial to the Detroit even though I am a Dodge guy(sorry Cummins)

Dave is correct except the 2050 and 2150 used Hercules engines.

That's correct, but White Motor which owned Oliver also had purchased Hercules (after White Motors' attempt to purchase Cummins got nixed by the goverment) which is why I think sometimes the Herc is refered to as an Oliver manufactured engine. The 3150 cat was the first one in the 2255 at 573 cubes, the 3208 Cat in the later 2255s' at 636 cubic inch displacement.

The interesting thing is Continental designed that 478 engine for the goverment. Hercules got the contract to build it. On Dave and his hydraulics. Do the 20 & 2150 both have the demand type flow divider?

Continental did design these motors but Continental and Hercules both built these motors for the mnilitary trucks. I am not sure but I think Hercules built all the engines that went in the tractors. White actually bought Hercules at some point but then sold it and the name was changed back to hercules.

I have several of these engines and 1 is a Continental, 4 are Hercules and 1 is a White.

All the motors I have were multifuel except the White motor. It was from a 2-155 and it had a roosamaster pump. Now it has a Bosch p-pump and is used in my pulling tractor.

Not sure. How do I tell? Also the 1950 has really slow hydrulics as well, you really have to wind it up to get any speed outa the flow.

I believe the 2150 used a Oliver manufactured engine. About 130 HP. The 2255 had a CAT 8 cyl with a bit over 145hp. The 1950 had a GM 2 stroke deisel with a supercharger on it. I use one of them with MFWD quite often. Gotta wear ear muffs but that tractor is awesome. The 2050 used an Oliver engine as well bout 120 horse. I grew up on Ih's and JD 2 poppers, but I do enjoy using my friends Olivers. Only thing I dont care for is the slow hydraulics and haveing to manuever my legs around the shifter to get in and out of the seat. Pic above is a 2050 in its original work suit. She aint pretty but she sure gets the job done. That is the exact combo I will be using to prep my ground this spring. One pass with that and then plant.
