Question in regards to pulling a plow with a 1650 Cockshutt. The tractor that I have has had an engine overhaul about 500 hours prior to me owning it. It has been bored out for bigger pistions for a 1750 sized engine.
I was wondering how many furrowed 16" plow I would be able to pull in clay loam soil. I'd be looking at a semi moumted plow. The only plows I have ever pulled was an old 4 furrow ace bottom trail plow that you had to trip using a rope, a ford 16" 3 furrow 3 point hitch my father bought to replace the trail plow, and a 3 point hitch plow 3 14" that I bought from my neighbour to pull with my Fordson Super Major. I've ploweed with semi mounted plows before, but they were set up for me. I never had to buy one bigger than a 3 furrow plow to match a bigger tractor than my Super Major. Bigger tractor, bigger equipment, implement shed too small again.
Thanks .
Bruce.

We bought a brand new 1850 diesel and a neighbor down the road bought a brand new 1850 diesel at the same time. We pulled a 5-16 with ours but he could only pull a 4-16 with his. Dad teased the heck out of him about this and he always said, " Bring your tractor down here and try to pull a 5-16 in this dirt, it won't pull it!"

So it depends on your soil and conditions, it should difinitely pull a 3-16 but a 4-16 might be pushing it.

I though your 1650 was a diesel. What size plow do your neighbor's pull with competitive sized tractors. 1650 and 1750 diesel are both 3.875 bore.

In my soils, sandier with spots of heavy peat, you could pull (4)16's. In heavy black I am thinking only (3) 16's. I am just basing that off the fact that the 1650 is close to the ih 656 and thats what was a match around here when I was young
