Front oil seal on 1800B

I"m in the process of replacing the front crank seal on my 1800 series B.

I have the factory shop manual and an I.T. manual, so I thought I had a good idea of what I should find.

When I removed the front pulley to take the timing cover off I found a "felt" gasket/seal between the rear pulley face and the timing cover. I didn"t expect to find a seal in this location. It was not noted in the manual.

I then removed the timing cover and I found the cork faced seal that the manual describes. Hard as plastic. I assume it was rubber at one time.

The replacement "seal" I purchased prior to starting this job (and before I read the manual) is made of felt. In fact,it looks exactly like the remains of what I found between the pulley and cover. It carries an AGCO # of 7K123.

Is this truly a replacement for the cork faced seal that is spring loaded against the timing cover or do I still need another item?

Thoughts?

Thanks.

No the felt seal goes where you found it. The new seal will be a spring loaded cork seal and goes where you found the old hard seal. Soak it in oil for a couple of hours before you install it. It seals against the front cover. The felt is a dust seal. Questions? J.

Thanks J. I didn't think that a felt seal would do the trick for the crank and gut instinct told me it was ment to be a dust stopper at the timing cover (like I found).

I guess I'm going back for more parts...

Next up I'll be educating myself on single and double acting cylinders and how to make my Oliver work. I'll get back to you when I have some questions on that. I may need a bypass valve p/n 107194A. It goes in the line from the front of switchpack to the operators platform behind your right foot. I currently just have a tube that goes from this port to the platform. (pipe plug just to the right of the steering/priority valve) Take the tube out and my remotes don't work. Put the tube in and my three point won't lift.

I now have an operators manual for the 1800 B so maybe I'll find what I need in there. Just haven't got to it yet.
