white 2-105, possible head gasket (unlikely thermostat...)?

In about 10 minutes or so of a cold start, or sooner when warm, I turn on the heater, which gets warm. The temperature gage starts to go up, but not quite up to operating temp, definitely coming up though. Then all of a sudden, the heater will get cold, and I look, coolant coming out of the overflow (rather cold, but runs down the tractor which is cool...), coming out rather fast. Shut it off, I do hear what could be bubbles in the radiator. No noticeable white smoke.

I have the thermostats out (these have two different ones??), but haven't quite checked them yet.

Could it possibly be a thermostat? If it isn't, roughly how much "could" it be to have it fixed? I've never had problems with head gaskets/waterpump, only thermostats in other tractors, so I don't know much about it.

Thanks.

Anyone know roughly how much having someone replace the head gasket would cost, and other things if needed, (machine head, sleeve/whatever). I have no idea, and would like to know before I start calling around. There is no way that I can probably find time to do it myself.

I don't think it's air, and I don't think the radiator is plugged.

Don't give up yet! The longer of the 2 thermostats closes the bypass hole (when warm) so the water is forced into the radiator. You NEED that one in there. You could try running with the other one out and the water shut off to the heater. If it still blows suspect a plugged radiator or head gasket or a crack.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can look more into it tomorrow, but I'm not very hopeful. I put them in hot, not boiling water, and they both seemed to open very well/fully. I just tacked it together for now, it was about a 1/2 mile away (I'd have pulled it, but that's annoying when you are by yourself). I shut it off and let it sit a bit going through a couple gates, thought I heard some air in the radiator again, a little, but it didn't start to even get warm, and it was partially drained/filled.

Thanks.

sound like you have an air lock somewhere and are not getting proper circulation. Look for the high spot in the system were you can bleed the air out.

It's a 1977. I see no oil in water/water in oil.

I did more searching, and see a few answers, but if anyone has any additional thoughts, or approximate costs, thanks.

Wondering if I should try to find a cheap cummins if it's too much.
