I found the problem on my 1650. The seal on the pump was torn. The shaft looks in very good condition as do the gears. Very little play in the gear shafts, so now I have to put it back together with all new seals and she should be good as new.

Before you do that while the pump is apart, push the gears toward the pressure side of the center plate. How large a feeler gauge can you stick between the side of the gears and the plate. Looking at stuf and measuring clearance are two different things. The gears ands shafts normally look good. The problem is with the bushings and the aluminum center plate. J.

J, thank you for all your help on this. Which side is the pressure side and how much clearance should there be?

Push the gears toward the suction side (side with largest port) Slide a feeler gauge between the gears and the center plate. Tell us what you have. J.
