Fixed front axle play - 550 Industrial

Sorry folks, I need my own forum here! Working on 2 x 550s at the same time.
When I was leaning against the front wheel while taking off the manifold, I realised that the whole front axle and rod assembly can be rocked back and forth by maybe 3/8ths. You can see the rod ends rocking forward and back in their sockets as I push forward and back on the axle.
Is this play normal or worrisome? My other 550 with adjustable axle does not do it.
How would I tighten that up? Or might it be from wear in the pivot pin?
This affects the steering a little too, as that slack has to be taken up before the wheels can turn.

I just fixed the adjustable axle for my brother's 550. The hole that it pivots on was wore out really bad. I bored it out to 1 3/4" (1 1/4" pin that it rides on) and I had a sleeve made up (1/4" side wall). I had a good weld chamfer on both the axle and the steel bushing and I welded it together, and then ground it smooth.

There is an angle to the hole as well, and the best I could figure it was a 6 degree angle, although it hasn't been put together yet to make sure it lines up right. Makes the set up a little more difficult for the machine shop if you bring it in.

Thanks Don. I wondered how you were getting on with that axle. So what play SHOULD there be? Should the pivoting pin sit in there nice and tight, like grease it and drive it in with a mallet? I have noticed that the pin is thicker on the industrial (fixed) set-up. Thanks for telling me about that angle...that has not just worn that way, has it?

That pin should just slide in, not much if any side to side slop.
