Differences in the Oliver 77 and Super 77 ??

Okay, I made a trip today for Dad to see "an old Oliver rowcrop". So, I've seen a few Olivers repainted in mixed up colours from the different generations and I assume a late 77 shouldn't be painted light green with white grill and rims, right ? Did they change the colour scheme at the end of production, all green or something like that ? Where should the serial number be located on this tractor, under the dash ?? If I can't find it, what are obvious external differences between a Super and plain 77 ? Thanks for any help at all :o). I can e-mail a couple of pics as I can't figure out how to upload right now.

Okay guys. Thanks a bunch, helpful as always. We have a Super 77 then as the frame is a dead giveaway with it's machined pads. It also sports the open tin shields, not the enclosed louvered ones. The tag is missing from the dash panel but it does have the Goodison gear shift-pattern tag. That's a little disappointing in itself as it means the old fella painted over the Goodison decals as well as the original paint. Are the intake/exhaust manifolds available for these tractors still ? Both of ours are cracked, but apparently repairable. Thanks again.

Yes they are.. Several people sell them. Korves Oliver sells a lot of parts for Olivers, plus they are super to deal with.

Engine Displacement was also increased from 193.9 to 216 if memory serves...

Super and late fleetline had diskbrakes and the early ones had band brakes.

The Super 77 did not have side shields. The side panel had rounded corners. The 77 with side shields was called a Fleetline series. The Super 77 had a larger muffler. However, some 77's were up-graded with the larger muffler and the side shields removed for better cooling. The colors for the Fleetline series is Meadow Green, Yellow grille and red wheels. Some Super 77's had green wheels. The Super 77 had machined pads on frame to accomodate implements. The Fleetline series had two round holes on each side of the frame for cultivator attachment.

just for styling & looks. remember you are dealing with the fifties when tail fins and long sleak lines were used in the auto industry. Most of the time the side shields were removed and hung in the rafters--cooling issues and just generaly a pain in the butt to mess with.
