any ideas on how to take the surging out of an 88 gas tractor's governor? we put it on the feed grinder and it was like a bucking bronco, thanks in advance randy.

There is also an adjustment on the rod between the governor and the carburetor. Also since it is an 88 it is more than 50 years old. Look at the hole in the governor arm. Most of them are worn causing binding. I have brazed them shut and redrilled them. J.

Optimize your carb adjustments and also look at your governor housing bolted to the front timing cover. There is a small capscrew (1/4" I believe) with a jamnut on it that faces forward (toward the cooling fan). This is the bumper screw and takes the hunting/surging out of the governor operation. Turn this screw in a little at a time until the surging goes away and then tighten jamnut.

Open up the main jet a 1/2 turn at a time. Sounds like its running to lean. Worse case would be that the carb needs to be rebuilt
