Tractor: Oliver 1850, repowered with 310 series c waukesha diesel. I rewired the starter put in a new key switch. Then the spring that holds the tension on the starter armature broke. Put it back on. Now I can hear the starter spinning, the armature pulls, but the starter only engages about every 3 or 4 key turns. I have adjusted the linkage on the armature but it only makes the problem worse. Any ideas out there?
Some of the parts may be wrong any corrections would be helpful. Thank You

Yes you are right. The solenoid on my starter sits on top and has a lever coming out of the rear - it is open not the enclosed type that the 1850 has.
