Need a motor and they're hard to find. Just wondering if there's a certain motor that would fit in a 30 without a whole lot of trouble.

Anday Mn,

I talked with a guy in Ontario, CANADA last week that installed a Chevy Celebrity 2.5 4 cyl. engine in a COCKSHUTT 30. He did this several years ago and uses it on a regular basis for blowing snow. Following are a few of his comments:

It fit in easily. The Chevy fly wheel worked after honing out the holes slightly,
The steering shaft was rerouted to the opposite side of the engine and connected to a late 70's Plymouth Volarie / Dodge Aspen power steering / gear that went right in replacing the original COCKSHUTT/ ROSS gear. The original COCKSHUTT radiator was used with the installation of an electric fan.

I have the guy's name and phone number if needed.

It came in as a PARTS tractor missing head and manifolds , sat outside many years , there was weeds growing in the cylinders ! And water leaked past the pistons filling the oil pan and later rusting a hole in the pan , draining the water . Any idea how many years that would take . Anyway there's a crack between the cylinders and one sleeve is broken .

Back when I drove milk truck in the early 70s,there was a Cockshutt 30 in one of the neighborhoods where I hauled that had a V8 in it. Never saw it up close, but I used to see it on the road now and then hauling wagons. Had all the original sheet metal and 2 Farmall M style mufflers. that thing looked excellent.

Huh , that's interesting , a V8 , Didn't think it would fit with the steering shaft going alongside the block . like to see that. Or maybe it was a 40 or 50 . They had the steering up above like the Farmall

That could have been. It's been 35 years. The mind ain't what it used to be.

I would guess an allis combine engine would be easy to find and close to working.
