We have a 77 with 6.00-16 fronts. They came either way. They all whine in road gear. Some whine in 3,4,6,R2 not unusual. Too much could indicate problem like bad bearing or worn or chipped teeth.

We have a 770 that was really noisy in the "high" set of gears. Turned out to be one gear really pitted with chipped teeth and another gear just pitted. Changed the worse one because it was easy to get at. Left the other one alone. Helped but still has some noise. Just a toy so I don't worry about it.

6.00-16 will work, anything bigger is tight. yes, they can be a little noisey in the rear end. Around here there was a saying that the John Deere's were put-puts and the Olivers were whiners.
