Where is the best place to but sleeves for a 283 gas motor. I am taking the old sleeves out for bigger pistons (4 1/4). But i need new sleeves so i can bore it out larger. Where is the best place to pick some up at. And what brand? Thanks

I bored an 88 Oliver to 4 inch in 1973. I used JD 4010 gas pistons and milled them down till they fit. A quarter inch more I think would have to be custom made and I saw a lot of failures. Know your piston maker. My compression went from 150 pounds to 260 which really increased my HP. Fuel had to be changed, you can make E-85 work now. Contact Lawrence Gingerich in Plain City Ohio, he has built the best Waukesha's in the country. Everything needs to be custom made by a custom machine operator and this will not be cheap.

I have seen several of those 4-1/4 bore engines. They had steel sleeves for extra strength. Are you running a diesel head for the cross flow effect?

No, used the stock head milled with block to be straight. Always wondered about that, heard about it, never did it. Four and a quarter produces a lot of heat in that little block, maybe too much. They were wrenching when we were winning.

to go 4 1/4" bore, it takes custom sleeves, and the block has to be machined to take the sleeves.
