Hello all,

I'm working on a magazine feature on the Oliver 880. I need to interview via email some of you guys that farmed with them or have restored one. Please email me at [email protected]

This isn't a scam but I suppose that is what someone running one would say.

Thanks for the help.

I had a neighbor in the late '70's that I sold 20 acres to, to put in Christmas trees. It had some "old growth" (translation for our midwest friends- "huge"-) stumps on it. He hired a guy with a D8 cat to split and remove them, and while he was there, I hired him as well, to take out those on my remaining land. After stump removal, we both finished the process on our adjacent lands- he with his JD 2020, I with my 880 Oliver. After "stick picking" and plowing, the last step was leveling with a 16 foot steel I-beam dragged crossways, for final leveling. There was a hill that ran across both parcels, and he called me one evening- Gonna have to have the Cat guy bring over his D6, because his 2020 wouldn't pull the I-beam up the hill. I figured the 880 would handle it fine, so the next night, I hooked up to it, and waited for him to come over after work. When I saw him come around the corner, I started across the flat, and I was pulling the I-beam up the hill like child's play, just as he was coming down he drive. He admitted he was beat, and I suggested that before he hired a D6, he might want to consider just hiring me and the 880 for half the price, if his cute little JD couldn't handle it. We both had a good laugh, and I told him he could use the Ollie whenever he needed it. He took me up on it, and we still laugh about it, 30 years later.

I had a 880 diesel, narrow front back in the late 70's-early 80's that I used as a 3rd tractor. Ran a 450 bu batch dryer, front mounted cultivator, even pulled a JD 1290 8 row planter with it once. Good old tractor. Chris
