I don't know how much access you have to a machine shop. To have the hydraulics and PTO work, you'll have to be able to run the original PTO shaft directly off the engine. That means using an Oliver clutch too,so you can use the original driveshaft. If it was a 70 without live power,it wouldn't be such a problem, you'd only have to get the power to the rearend. Is there room between the block and frame for the starter?. You'll have to have the motor sitting exactly the right distance from the rearend for the PTO to be the right length. It will have to sit EXACTLY straight too, there's no way to put a U-joint in it with it inside the hollow main driveshaft. That should be enough to get you started thinking. If you get beyond all that and get stuck again, just post again.

I saw a 4 cyl volvo car motor put into a oliver 60 row crop once. HACK JOB. Was used as a tractor still. I think they blew the original motor and thats all they had to put in.

Try posting this question on the puller forum. There just might be someone who has done this before???? Sounds like a neat idea though.

It's just about the same displacement as the 77, so it wouldn't be too much HP, at least as long as you keep the RPM down.
But it would be easier with an inline 6-cylinder, I would think.
