Hi all...

We've been looking at tractors a bit and are considering an Oliver 550. We grow mixed veggies and are looking for a versatile tractor to compliment our Super A which we cultivate with. We plan to use this tractor to run a bush hog, 3-point disc, field cultivator, and transplanter. We may consider a rotovator or tiller in the future.

Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on the Oliver 550(or a Super 50) for this type of work?!

Are there "problem areas" associated with these tractors? How are they in terms of ease of service and parts availability?

Any insights much appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

I love my 550, 1974 model. Parts have been no problem. Power steering, live power and pto a major plus. Read the article at link below. It can be found on this site to the left - research and info, articles,,,,
Good Luck

I have a super 55 diesel. Its my baby. They are good for anything you want to do. I plow with a 2 bottom plow, pull disks, cultivate, brushog, and remove downed trees and firewood with mine. You have plenty of power, and plenty of gears to choose from. I use my swinging drawbar alot. They are very nice tractors, parts are fairly easy to get, some are expensive, but average. They are very easy to work on also. If you look around here, there is a checklist to look on the 550"s or Super 55"s.
