What is the best source for in-frame parts kit for 283 diesel (pistons, sleeves, bearings, gaskets, etc)?

I"m not talking just about price (although that is a consideration), but are there differences in quality to watch out for. Should I stick to Agco dealers or is there some on-line source or some place I should call. I don"t want parts problems during or after the job is done. Thanks.

Take it apart first and measure everything up. How can you order bearings, etc if you do not know what size is there or if the crank needes to be ground? How about valves one piece pin bushings etc.

Yes, we were going to measure it up before ordering anything, check valves, etc. This motor has never been apart and should not be in too bad a shape (hopefully!). The oil pressure has been good, compression not so good, no oil consumption.

This would have 2 piece pin-bushings, is that correct? Did some of them have one piece? Do you have to put back what was there because of rod design? The engine serial# is 315835, the tractor Serial# is 281851-A12.

I see on this site is mentioned a break at Serial# 187585; is this the engine number or tractor number? What would the difference be before and after this number?

When we are ready, what is a good source for parts? Thanks for all advice.

Your 187 586 would be the 1650 tractor serial number went the direct injection engine was put in production. None had one piece pin bushing or valve seats from the factory nor did they have the new style rod bolts. I am not going to tell you which parts to use.

Thanks for the info. So would the 2-70 have had the new style rod bolts from the factory?

The only books I have are the IT manual and the White Parts Catalog. They both show valve seats for the 2-70 gas and diesel. Was it only the earlier Olivers that had no seat inserts? Or are you saying I should replace the seats no matter what.

I have an experienced diesel mechanic who would be helping me with this but he has no Oliver/White experience. The engine has 5900 hours on it. Thanks again.

Thanks again.

That would be the engine serial # Ive bought overhaul kits from yesterdays tractors before and they were good quality and good priced too especially compared to an AGCO dealer.
