Oliver Fan:

The last Oliver (Orange Heading) "Sales Notes" that I have in my collection is dated December 1971.  That format was followed by the black & White Sales Notes in the above illustration.  The sales information in the later 70's was in the format as shown above.

The factory did not paint the MM G955 in Oliver colors like the G1355 since it was a 98.63 HP tractor according to Nebr. Tractor Test.  Oliver's 1855 tested at 98.63 HP, Although the 1855 was painted in MM colors, there would have been too many duplicates.  Perhaps someone has repainted a G955 Meadow Green.  The Charles City built Oliver tractors were painted MM colors as follows:  1555 = MM G550, 1655 = MM G750, 1755 = MM G850 & 1855 = MM G940.

In the early 70's I worked for a M-M/Oliver dealer who was a whole-goods warehouse. I sold the same customer a yellow Oliver G-750 (1655)and an Oliver G-1355 in green. We had no green G-955's; however, one of the last G-955 Del Monte tractors that we had would not sell. The boss painted it green and decaled it with plow decals on the side of the hood. It sold almost immediately and remained in the area through several owners.

Guess I will have to eat "Crow" on the G955 not having been painted in the Meadow Green color.  I looked at the parts book for the G955.  It does list a decal set for "Oliver".  I don't remember seeing any of the G955's with Green paint.

Well we sold 1 G-955 and it was green. The customer wanted something in the 100 Horse class with a slow speed engine. It was an early one. It did not perform as expected and we had to go through it and get things in spec. After that it ran real well. He traded it for a red one and I don't know where it went after that.

Duane,

Thank you for the information on the sales notes. I would think that Minneapolis Moline stopped using the "Product News" format at the same time that Oliver stopped using the orange heading format. I have some of the orange and black sales notes, and I don't have any of either color printed between December 1971 and July 1972. I don't have many "Power Pointers", like the 1974 edition that you show in your example.

Now, we all know about the G 1355's painted Oliver green, but not much about the G 955 tractors painted green. Before the Waterloo show I was in Charles City, and I gave Mary Ann a serial number for a Green G 955 that a friend of mine has. I talked to her on the phone last friday and she has had a hard time finding any information on that tractor. About all she can find is the date it was built. I have see another green Oliver G 955 advertised about a year ago, but I haven't see it. When I was at the Waterloo show I see the green Oliver G 955 on display. That would be a total of three green G 955's I know about. I don't have enough information to say if the green Oliver G 955's have factory paint or not. Maybe someone from central Ohio or around Cedar Rapids, Ia. know of others.

As far as anybody posting anything about true Molines painted green, that subject has been covered in the past.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I know you are the one who would know these things personally. Larry Gays Big Book O'Oliver says the the G950 though, was painted green and sold in 1971 as an 1865. Rated at 97 hp. It says the G1050 was sold as a 2055 and the G1350 was sold as a 2155. Is that right,or were those pictures in the book just prototypes?

I don't have a horse in this either, but, you're right Larry's book says MM G950 was Oliver 1865. The difference is a G950 and a G955 are not the same tractor. G950 is all MM and G955 is MM front half and Oliver "55" series rearend. So Duane's post is correct in that G955s were not painted green. WB.

I know where there's a 1355 with the Oliver three speed and rear end and at that same location an 1865 with the Oliver rearend, I don't remember if the 1865 had a three speed or not. I'd like to own both of them but the boss says no.
