I have been looking for a 2255 to rebuild, every one I have found has the original cat engine replaced with a 3208. Whatwas the problem with the originals, were these engines really junk or what? If someone could give me some more information about this and any other info on these tractors I would really appreciate it.

John the original engine in the 2255 was a 3150 cat v 8. I'm not sure when they changed for sure but a lot of 2255 tractors came out of the factory with the 3208 too. The last 2255's I think were made in 1976 and had the White sign in the cast iron grill in front too.The 3150 engine seemed to be a good engine but they shut off slowly, it usually took about 3 to 5 seconds for the tractor shut down. They were also harder to start in cold weather where the 3208 would start easy even below freezing. Good luck in your search

The orginal engine was the little brother to the 3208. The 3208 is 636 ci. It seems like the first engines was 573 ci approx. I don't remember the number. A Nebraska test should would be a good source. Since Cat was the source of the engines. And since the 3208 is always called a throwaway engine. The owners of these tractor bought new 3208 to replace the orginals. I'm not sure how long 2255 production ran. I do believe the later tractor recieve either 1160's or 3208's. The 1160 is the same size engine as the 3208. It needs ether to start on a cold morning, doesn't have a high of injection pressure as the 3208. Later,
