If the front axle rocks back and forth on the pivot pin, what usually happens? The bushing wears first, eating away the I.D. of the bushing hole next, then the pivot pin? I know conditions vary and teardown is a must, but that will not happen till spring. Just curious what I'm in for, while I wait for the snow to melt.

Yes, the bushing wears out and the pin can get some wear. However, if the bushing gets to worn out then the housing will get wear if it is contacted by the pin. Make sure you fix it before the housing starts to wear causing problems with the new bushing. The pins are hardened steel but so they usually don't wear much unless the bushing is excessively bad or the rear bushing is bad enough. Make sure you replace the rear bushing too. If you don't then the front can wear quickly due to the increased edge loading on the front bearing.
