I just bought an Oliver 88 diesel Row Crop. When the seller bought it, it didn't have any sheet metal. He bought sheet metal off a Super 88.But the metal where the serial number is located, wasn't ever replaced as far as he knows. The problem is, my Oliver guide book says for 1952 and on, the serial number is located on the lower left under the dash. This is where the plate is. But my serial number doesn't match any numbers for an 88 diesel Row Crop, or for that matter, any Oliver numbers that are in my guide book/other serial number resources. Yet the plate says Oliver, Charles City, Iowa. My serial number is 17 773 804. If anybody can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

At least your dash serial number plate is from a Super 88 that was built in 1955.  The last three digits "804" indicate that the powertrain was a "Special Low".  804 Decoded: the 8 is the model family (88 through 880), The last of the three 04 means a C4 powertrain, since they didn't use letters the c became a 0, thus 804.

What style frame do you have? The serial # is for a 1955 super . You might have a true super
