I had a great find over the weekend and just have to share it with everyone. I was helping an retired dealer sort through his stuff he is trying to get rid of and I found this folder. Inside is a 8/5X 11 photo of a 50 series tractor w/cab pulling a 5 bottom with two wagons full of spectators pulled along side. Also in the folder is a "A visit at OLIVER tractor plant" booklet with excellent pictures of people at work in Charles City. There is a booklet called "Here is what your Oliver Dealership can be" that shows how to set up a dealership down to even the cost detail. Finally there is an "Oliver Dealer Merchandise Manual" with "Aids", "Identification" and "Apparel" sections that shows of all the merchandise available for a dealership.

This stuff is 42 years old and I can't beleive the quality of it.

Look at the back cover photo on the November/December 2004 HPOCA magazine showing the line-up of 50 series at the time.  This photo was taken at the Growing "O" show that you guys are talking about.  It was taken the day after the final show.  I should know the name of the person on the 1250, however CRS has set in.  The second tractor is driven by Joe McGuire, then Paul Gildow, then Bud Koskivk and I can't make out the last two operators.  The three that I listed were Omaha Branch employees.  This is the line of tractors that Gene Keene talked about where the new tractor and plow equipped with speedex bottoms was able to catch up with.

The new 1950T was to be introduced at this show also, however they had head gasket concerns and did not introduce it.  As many of you know the first 1750 Dsl tractor used a crankcase that had the cooler blocked off. They used those crankcases intended for the 1950T in the early 1750's and built the 1950T crankcases with larger head bolts, thus it was not introduced until 1968 along with the 2050 & 2150's.

I HAD a 1965 full line catalog,an industrial catalog and a plant souvenier booklet. Near as I can figure out, somebody threw them out quite a few years ago. Makes me sick!

The local Cockshutt dealer gave me his entire stock of sales literature when he closed in 1976. You name it, it was there. Right down to White 2255 brochures. A box I could only stagger with even though I was a farm kid, used to work, and lots of it. My evil sister had designs on throwing it all out because she knew what it meant to me. After several attempts on her part, which I foiled each time by finding it all outside in the trash ready for the dump, she finally succeeded. Besides all my Cockshutt stuff was my collection from all the other dealers in the area. Boxes full. It'd be worth thousands today, not that I would have ever sold it. I've resented her for it ever since. She never got any better with time, either. Anyway, I know how you feel.

That full line catalog is still around, bringing $35- $60. Over the years I have collected all the 1963 and up issues. Now the industrial ones are quite a bit harder to find and those plant tour ones are next to impossible!

The 1966 growing O show was held in Iowa near Charles City. The new tractor being introduced was the 1750. Also included in that growing O show was a tour of the plant. They took us out (via bus) to a new Oliver dealership on the outside edge of town. So now you see why those two booklets were included We also spend time in a field somewhere and watched a 1950 with FWA keep up with a 5010 or 5020 John Deere and that was also where the purple 1850 was introduced. My one boy was scanning some of the slides I took there. They included the 1850 gas tractor running over railroad ties.Almost forgot. They showed us the new plow bottom which we had to name. You know it as the Speedex bottom. Also they were promoting some new industrial products. For our group it was in August of 66. Might remember more of it tomorrow.

Gene talked about the intro of the Purple tractor to demonstrate the new high speed rear-end at our Winter Get Together. He said they kept it hidden in the shed at the growing O show. Once the others started they announced to go get the purple tractor and by the end of the row it had caught up with the others. My brochure shows that dealership in Charles City called "United Oliver Sales" and shows a nice display of how a dealer could be set up.

J, No, I didn't pay for it, but when I bought the two Dealer Council Awards from 1967 and 1968 and the Growing O sign-up placque he threw this in for free.

I kind of remember going to a show when I was a kid and I think there was a parade of sorts of all the 50 series with four wheel drive, and I think my grand parents had a home movie of it.
