I am in need of some advice. I am looking to purchase a nice little dozer to clean up some pasture land. The land to be cleaned up has thorn trees and bushes on it. Nothing extremely large, but thick. Of course with the rising cost of land, I thought it might be cheaper to clean of some of what I already own. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a good older dozer that would work well for this type of application.. I am looking to spend from $8,000 to $20,000. Thanks Also any pictures of the suggested units would be appreciated.

I had some acerage to clear off and aquired an Allis HD-5 with a 271-GM. Nice little dozer. Still have it, simple to work on and effcient on fuel. Only had $5000 invested I just like the sound of those Jimmey"s

Hello, Shaun

You need to hire a skidsteer with a rotary tree saw on the front of it, i can cut any size tree and i have a grapple to pile brush with. How many acres do you have. My number is 417-399-4860, im in Southwest Mo

An older dozer will work fine but what is your plan to do with the brush once you've got it out? If your going to burn it I would look for a hi-lift maybe a 555 J.D. or a 955 Cat but stick to the later Cat's maybe a K or L model. I think you can buy one of these for less than 20 and resell it a little easier when your done. The hi-lift works so much better for brush and even larger trees because you can roll the piles to get the dirt out of them and shake the stumps to remove dirt. I've run these things for twenty years now and the best thing I was taught when I began was "dirt doesn't burn". The new Cat hi-lifts are such a joy to run they're so quick it's hard to believe. I've cleared with a 350 J.D. dozer and hi-lift they're a little small. I think a 450-455 J.D. would be a good choice, too. Another advantage of the hi-lift is you can reach up and remove limbs with the bucket which is hard to do with a dozer so you can get to the tree. Be carefull and good luck!

Weve got an old D7 cat works fine for that kind of stuff. ou can find them for the lower end of your price range. there are still a lot of old 3T or 17A series D7 cats around. A D6 would even work fine if there arent any great big trees. An old D6 9U would work and someofthem dont bring 4-5,000. Just find one with direct start so you dont have a pony motor to mess with. Just buy one clean up your land and sell it again it wont cost ya much toown one . they hold there value. What state are ya in.

There is a farm of here along the river that was not farmed for x number of years. A lot of small brush grew up on and a guy took a Deere (I think 450) and cleaned it up and it is all being farmed now with good results.

Your AUTO & R.V. always have several and I wouldn't spend over 9 or $10,000 and you could have a very nice newer unit and like he said just turn around and sell it when your done playing. Only thing I know is when you have anything like that all your "friends" wanna use it too! Good luck and stay away from anything that looks like it has been abused because it surly has and broken parts can add up very fast.
