Thanks to everyone who replied below to my concern on the hy leak to the trans. I have gotten the pump our and removed the 4 seals, 2 on each side of the pump. Noticed the seals were installed opposing each other on both sides of the pump. I am wondering why they are installed that way. Check an I&T manual, and they were installed correctly. I do understand why the seal closest to the pump is installed the way it is, but why is the outer seal opposed? There is no pressure in the trans/rearend side, no dirt on that side either. Is there some good reason for this?

That in a sense made it a double lip seal. The outside one keept contamination from working into the pump. Probably 90% are installed with seal lip next to pump for all 4 seals.. I hope you flushed the unit and installed new filter and fluid. J.

Yes that would make it a double lip seal. But why would that be needed inside of the transmission, where on the outside of the pump there is no dirt, no pressure coming from the trans side. The I&T manual definetly shows them installed opposed

Well its more a matter of dirt and if you think about it the fact that gears wear and gear wear puts iron shavings in the oil of the tranny and those you don't want in the hyd. pump. But yes I think I installed mine all the same way so I didn't do it as the book said but mine where that way when I took them out so I put them back the same as they came out not as the book says to do
