Isaw 5 Oliver tractors sell today here in northeren Ohio. All tractors were for the most part complete, original, fenders and lights and side curtains but in need of restoration. '55 S88D no hyd, water pump was leaking and had fresh oil coming out the exhaust. sold for $2100. '52 88D straight and complete had super side curtians, hydralectric $2200. '36 HP70 with 2 row cult $1600. '44 70 complete with belt pulley $1450. '48 70 $1350. All were narrow front and mainly need paint. Do these prices reflect what any of you have seen?

Late last summer I saw a S77, NF, PTO/belt/1 hydr, good stright tin, redone but not well paint, fair rubber. THis tractor had a mild rod knock, had been parked on an incline, and the oil had run out of the front seal to the point where it barely showed on the dipstick. My initial estimate was $1200, down to $1000 after I got looking. It went for $2800. Later saw a 77, non-super, good repaint and tires, light smoke, no belt, had 1 hyd/pto, go for $3800. 77 in good shape, straight tin, lights, no PTO/hydro, went for $3450, similar tractor in better shape, no curtains, w/PTO, hydro, and what I would guess was the 3pt off a 770, $1800. Overall I thought the latter tractor was much nicer. Yes, the prices are getting ridiculous here in the east half of the country - farmers are selling out for suburbs and taking the money and buying old tin "like I used to have". On the other hand, Ford 9N's are going down in price.

To pin down the reason why prices are higher here in the east, we may have to study the ratio of population to # of tractors in a given area. But also, the availability of repair parts plays a role in it too. I live less than 50 miles from a excellent source of used Oliver parts here in Ohio, and I know of two more places in PA, and seems like there may be one in NY also. I dont know how spread out parts suppliers are out west though.

Those are pretty high prices,although prices here(S.WI)are climbing three different sales had smtd I.H going for $5000 and another had a JD "A" that brought 5000.Still I would not give over a grand for the s88 more like when I die Ill tell the wife to load um up and take um all to Ohio.

I live in Oklahoma and just bought a Super77 diesel running decent tires with busters and cultivators for $750. But it needs a new pan gasket.

I am starting to see a pattern when it comes to older farm tractors in general. They seem to sell better east than in the west. Do you get the same impression?

It seems starnge to me that out East they are getting expensive. Seems like there are tons more tractors out there,especially Olivers. I likve in BC and when I was looking for my Oliver two years ago I only saw 2 Olivers listed in the first year. I look every weekend in the local classifieds and still don't see many. It's a little better in Washington State, but not much. The first Oliver I ever looked at to buy was a 77 wide front with a dual action heavy duty FEL and the guy wanted $5000US, that was $7,500 my money. I got my Super55 for $2,600 CAN which would be about $1,750 real money. I look on the net at the Western Producer Newspaper out of Saskatchwan, and the Olivers listed there are always in Alberta, Saskatchwan, or Manitoba. The Capitol Press out of the Oregan has 1 or 2 listed every week, but mostly the four digit series.

I just bought an 880 gas 3 point power steering for 750$. Needs overhaul bad. I feel these went a little high.
