Im in the process of rebuilding my 77 engine and am stumped by something I read in the parts manual. My oil filter adapter had a messed up inlet tube that was loose in the body, so I made another from brake tubing...I tapped the end, installed a #12 screw and drilled it the size of the small hole in the original tube (I forget the size) I also drilled two holes in the side of the tube that were in the original also. Turned out good, but then I saw what the manual calls a "restriction disc" under the inlet tube...which I dont have. I found a spare adapter in the parts pile and it was missing from under the tube on that one too! Does anyone know what size hole is supposed to be in it this restriction disc? Or do the small holes in the other end of the tube eliminate the need for it? Thanks in advance

I have a couple cast base ones from an 88. If they will fit your 77 then give me a shout. Chris

The kit number is KS5506. I have a kit that I just bought. I don't have my round feeler gauges here so I can't tell you exactly what the hole size is but, a 1/16" drill bit will start in the hole but will not go all the way through. Hope this helps.

I"m wandering a little bit here, but.....
About 20 years ago I had some spare time on my hands and the engine that I overhauled on my dad"s International "H" had just been broke in. I found a filter base from a junkyard and milled and lathed it so that a Chevy oil filter screwed on. I used the same size restrictor that was on it. Not so sure that it has to be exact, because it was a bypass system and most of the oil being circulated isn"t filtered, probably about 95 percent. I guess what I"m saying is that you could probably look at some other brands and find out the size of their restriction.

I still think my dad"s "H" is the only one in the world with a screw on oil filter.

There was a repair kit which included the tube and the disk. My advice: get a cast iron oil filter base and replace yours.
