It is indeed a 5440 plow that's been shop converted into a mounted plow. We pulled one for several years behind an 880. on this particular plow the mast for the top link is homemade, as a 5440 didnt use the top link. the small tail wheel was a crazy wheel and lifted the back of the plow. they took a beating and usually were tore up. it looks like the previous owner tried to remedy this. ours also had a guage wheel on the left side. which i believe is almost required on a tractor without draft control. it looks like you plan on using a 770/880? before spending alot of money you might try plowing a while with it to see how it will work, might gouge in and out of the soil pretty bad without the guage wheel

Yes, the top link mount is an add-on, at least it was cut & welded well and tidy. I made several licks with it in the back field, it did'nt pull too bad. I will pull it with the 770, with no draft control I have used a chain for depth control before, the best part of the traction hitch, as she starts to bite and sink the better she pulls. I only have about 18 acres left to plow & reseed orchard grass. Getting all my junk working is what makes it the most fun.

thanks for responding and all the information,

My best to all!

Thanks again, I'll check w/ the AGCO guys about some parts, and yes the frame bar that held the tailwheel was torched off, probably got hung in a fence. My best to you and yours.

I think you mean a 5440. They went together with the power traction hitches. We called them "fence cleaners" As you turned it knock the fence down. Of course by that time they were in the way anyhow.I looked at that frame but all of them we had around here had a small tail wheel. Somewhere I have a book with one on the cover.

Slat type bottoms were meant for use in loose
sticky soils.

Well another man asked about them several weeks ago. I don't know about the slats , only ever sold 2 plows with them (model 450 plows) but I will look later this evening as I think I kept the prices for heels landside and shins. They are available from AGCO, but to have fun to plow with it adds up into some money to install all those items. J

Thanks for responding! It's an Oliver 540? I don't mind spending a litle money as the plow was free. It won't be the 1st time i put more $ into something than it's value! I have a pretty good Agco dealer about an hour away.

Thanks again,
