New White Tractors

I am just wondering what people think about these new White tractors. I think that they are good reliable tractors, but they kind of lost their own idenity. Only thing that makes the White different from Massey and Agco Allis are the engine and paint color. Also I'm wondering what people think about White tractors being built overseas instead of Coldwater Ohio, (personally I don't like it). Does this mean in the future Agco will combine the 2 or 3 tractor names into one and ending White? My wish would be if Agco would Design a tractor from the ground up that would be highly competitve with Deere, CaseIH, and NewHolland. Then paint them Meadow Green and Clover White and call them Oliver again. But I don't know if Agco is worthy of building a tractor to put the Oliver name on. I really doubt that Agco would consider bringing the Oliver name back but it would be neat if they would.

Any Input would be appreciated.

I have a new 8510 and it is a great tractor, I traded in a White 145 that gave me very good service. When they start to manufacture the new ones in France I will switch to a red or green.

Albert, please reconsider your decision to buy red or green. As Charles has already pointed out, ever since the Charles City facility was eliminated in 1993, parts have been largely made overseas. This corresponds with the introduction of the 6000 series Workhorses, which are outstanding tractors made from a large number of foreign components. It is impossible to buy a tractor made entirely in the U.S.A. anymore. The new Whites kept all the mechanical strongpoints of the 6000 series and improved operator comfort, machine performance, and looks. The new Whites, as well as the new Allis's and MFs, are unparalleled in the industry. After all, if AGCO's North American market share keeps dwindling, those first-rate machines will only be available overseas and we poor Americans will be forced to buy New Holland, Case, or Deere, all second-rate compared to AGCO tractors. And that means the parts for our beloved Olivers and WFE Whites will be even more expensive than they already are.

Bad news, Sparky, the 8510 is built in the MF plant in France. Even if it was assembled in the US, most of the parts were made overseas. Even the Cummins engine was made in England. They no longer use the nearly indestructible White rear end.

I have a 6125 powershift, and I think it is the cat's meow. But when they closed Charles City, they started having their castings made in England, and then shipped here for assembly. So even this tractor is a little "forgien".

We had a 6175 it was better than the 8100 John Deere we now have mecanicaly. The bigest thing was the hood was so wide and didn't need to be. I wounder what AGCO plans to do with the coldwater plant? It isn't that old. I don't know if they could sell new oliver tractors. Those folks at Excelcior henderson Motor cycles tried to bring back an old name and failed. I think they could sell new 1655's and such I see a void for that size tractor in a row crop. But I coulden't aford to buy one. I wouldn't see why they couldent offer some tractors with the oliver name and paint. A guy did his agco star up with oliver green and white. Looks super sharp. Paint does sell.

You are not alone saying that it is a shame Oliver went out of buisiness , and wish they could be here today.We talk about that quite often.Oliver sure didn't go out because of there product.They went out due to poor buisiness management.White bought out Olivers management , and things went down from there.Yes it is a shame that White is being made over seas.More and more industry is going over seas , not just White.They say that it's a global market now.Expanding over seas is progress.As we all know , the real reason they are going over seas is that the labor , taxes , insurances , etc. is a lot less expensive.Mean while , they keep closing plants down in the United States.The goverment says that a company has to have at least one plant here in the United States in order to go over seas.Companies here are down sizing and closing plants in the United States.They are doing minimum production here , and taking the rest of the buisiness to other countries.This is why wages and jobs are being cut in the United States.Some day the other countries are going to get built up to the point where they are going to say to the United States , we don't need you any more.GET OUT!. I could go on and on about the over seas subject , but why bother.There is nothing we can do about it.I try to live a simple life and enjoy the little things like Oliver tractors.

What story did you here about the Oliver/White takeover(or whatever it was, it was before my time)? I have talked to a guy who said that oliver loaned White motors a great deal of money and somehow white took over oliver from this, which is don't get. wouldn't oliver get white? musta had better lawyers..

You are largely correct. In the 1960s, after White Motor had officially purchased Oliver in 1960, White Motor was attempting to bail out its ailing Freightliner truck division. Guess where the money came from? Yep. Oliver. The 1960s were good times for White's farm equipment divisions, especially Oliver. Freightliner built new facilities, etc. with Oliver's money and later prospered in the 70s and 80s. For some reason, (I've never heard why) the money Oliver loaned to Freightliner was never repaid them and they suffered for it. So whenever you see a Freightliner on the road, just remember that Freightliner sucked the life out of Oliver.

Was a good story about this in a issue of the HPOCA mag.Cut story short corpate raiders named the Mailmen bros got ahold of some oliver stock bought some more changed rules where if you were over a certain age you had to retire from the board of directors,they then put their own people in on board,and then convinced that the tractor market was going to fall apart sold out to white motors which just happened to own the white trucking out fit that the Mailmen bros sold to white earlier.So I say we all get together and put a price on their heads and track em down and hang um hi(just joking on this figure god likes oliver too and that there is a special place in hell already for the boys)Also oliver had alot of jerks for block men who didnt help sales out at all.
