I currently have a Oliver 88 Pedal tractor listed on Ebay, and it ends Very Soon. I received 1 email in the middle of the auction, that asked if this is an original, which I replied @ the bottom of the listing. Another questionable email has been sent to me, just now, saying that they believe this is a repo ?. Wasn"t sure if they made repos of this, -- the one we listed, sure doesn"t look like it ? Bid is very high @ $2182.00 -- over -- 2000+ viewers and only 2 emails in question ? I want to be fair to the winner bidder, and to the owner, -- as * We are selling it for someone else *, and the tractor - is not ours.
Thanks for taking a quick look, your Reply would be greatly appreciated, Chuck

I just asked first about if anyone had seen it? Well anyone willing to pay over $2500 has to know what there bidding on. I still think you did very well and only hope my family can get that type of return on all my toys when the day comes!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the other Pedal car discussion Site, so that I may post this info request to others, as this auction ends on Sunday, and I could use all the help I can get.

I might be partly responsible for some folks thinking that it might be a reproduction. Somebody posted a link to it the other day commenting on the price. When I went to it,it wouldn't come up all the way. I could only see the top of it. I don't believe the steering wheel is original since it's a three spoke and the original was a two spoke. I went back to it and it finally came up. Looking at the age of the wheels,I believe it IS original and I posted a retraction. Somebody started making reproductions of them about a dozen years ago and I can't imagine going to the trouble of weathering one that much to pull off a fake. If I had it here next to my original,I could tell you for sure since the repro is about 1/4 inch shorter. The mold for the repro was made from an original casting and the process caused the new mold to shrink and be that much smaller. I apologize if it was my post that caused doubt, and I can't guarantee it's authenticity, but I believe it's original.

It looks to be very old but,i am not an expert on these things either. If i were you i would call Lyle and Helen Dumont of the Dumont Museum in Sigourney Iowa at 641-622-2592.The Dumonts will i'm sure be able to tell you how to date and identify this peice. They also have an e-mail address,oliver@lisco.com.They have hundreds of Oliver related toys in the museum and i'm sure they can help you.
