I just bought a 1954 Oliver Super 55...my first Oliver! I don't know much about them yet. The one I bought seems in decent shape and runs well, though oil pressure is in the low range. THere's no smoke (except a little when first starting). Any suggestions on what to check into regarding the low oil pressure? THe oil was changed 2 years ago with 10W-40.
I also noticed a newer piece of sheet metal centered in the lower part of the dash just above the steering gear housing. THere are no holes in it as for switches or whatever, but seems like something would have been there in its original condition. Could someone clue me in, or even have a pic of their dash they could post?

Thanks!

Normal oil pressure on Super 55 is only 15 to 18 lbs.If its lower the the orifice disc in the oil filter base is probaly missing. Can you tell if the oil filter base is made of cast iron or alumium? If the orifice is missing out the alumium base then thats your problem.

Thanks OFM, I"ll take a look at the oil base for the orifice you mention.

The oil pressure gauge doesn"t actually give me number for oil pressure. It just has a range from "low" to "high", without actual psi value. Guess I"ll need to hook up a different gauge to get a better idea of actual pressure.
