I'm starting to get the " I need another tractor bug". Would like a 1650 diesel, and then I could get rid of my Farmall 400. I was looking on Agco's machine locator, and stumbled across a White 2-70 that needs engine work for $3995. Comparable price wise to 1650's that need work. Is there much difference in these 2 tractors? Parts availability? I know the bigger tractors are quite a bit different, but thought I had heard that the 2-70 was just a 1650 with different tin work and paint? Any idea how much hauling costs are? Anybody live near Waldo, Wis.? If I don't get outside soon, I'm gonna go nuts. Chris

Most 1650's, except for a few real late model ones, have the "hydra power" option which gives 12 speeds forward, 4 speeds reverse. Almost all of the 1655's and 2-70's have "over/under hydraul shift" which gives 18 speeds forward, 6 speeds reverse. This is the better choice, plus both the direct & over ranges are not "free wheeling". The 2-70 came with only a couple of small modifications over the 1655 (other than the obvious sheet metal). They use a spin on oil filter on the 2-70's and they have a single square glass type fuel filter that requires no tools to change. Also they rerouted the air intake to the front of the tractor, instead of the middle. They eliminated the heavy cast clover white grill in the front and replaced it with a cheap plastic grill.

In my opinion, there is no significant difference in performance between the 1655 & 2-70, the 2-70 is just uglier.

I live 20 miles north of Waldo, WI. Who has the tractor for sale? A dealer or private party?

I found it on the Agco Machine locator, assume it is MF or Agco dealer. Just went and looked it up, Gibbsville Implement. They also have a MM Jet Star 3 with loader. Chris

2-70 is a 1655 with different sheet metal and paint, but there really ain't a whole heck of a lot of difference between the 3 mechanically.
