I'd like to just buy a new battery and take it with me when I go to pick up my new 550. Can somebody tell me the maximum dimentions that the battery can be for a 59 550?

maple stone yea just had to kid you about the new 550 yes the low profile batterys work best. and there sure is alot of 550s aval right now.

When I was shopping my new 550 battery, I just took the sliding tray with me, and measured the vertical clearance, and purchased the most powerful one that would fit on that footprint.

any thing less than 12L.x8w.x 8h. should fit sure would like to find me a new 550 when did oliver start putting them back in production. ha ha just kidding

You can buy these new 550"s from your local Olive/Studebaker dealer. They"re popping up everywhere. Just remember, "Batteries Not Included". :o)

Get a low profile style battery. The tall ones make for a hard time fitting without being too close to gas tank, etc. and shorting out/arching. You don't want that happening near gas tank/sediment bowl.
