Oliver Identification Book- Somebody write this please!

Many of my books about various cars get very specific in describing a car of a particular year or model- they fully describe differences in engines, transmisions, trim and accessories, paint schemes, etc. I've learned (the hard way) that many of the parts on my five Oliver 88's don't interchange. This is a real pain in the duff when you've got planting to do and you can't put your turning brakes back together! Or how about the fact that the output shaft/crank tail are not the same from one year to another- try fitting a non chamfered end into a chamfered receiver! Would somebody please put together a book that is very detailed covering the many Oliver models, differences in the models, etc. I'm sure such a book would be bought by owners of all those other tractors as well (i.e., a book describing the same changes in other make tractors).

You are'nt going to believe this! I might have what you need. It's An Oliver Shop Manual that covers the fleetline, super, ##0 series of the 55-88.

I haven't read much about the 80's or 88's. I have a super 55. But at least in the 55 if there is a change, it gives the serial # of where the change was made. It was published in '58 and weights about 15lbs in a oliver binder.

Give me a SPECIFIC change you need and I see what I can find.

MiesCity (Montana I presume?) I was at forsyth for 2 years. ) I'm writing a book such as this for Minneapolis-Moline. inc. some late Oliver & Cockshutt & early White. it cost lots of moneay, as no publisher wants to do it as it only costs money, they don't think they will get their return on money invested, as fewer tractor book readers than car readers. I could easilly have 500 pages if I want, to include text & photos of all models, options & differences.

Boy that would be a big book.I know Oliver made at least four different speed rearends(not counting ind.)From slow to one that can stick with a I.H..Oliver was also noted for building lots of different trans and rearend setups and I too would buy the book just to read it.Any older oliver boys in your neck of the woods?Best source of info to be had is from them, beats any book.As far as brakes go look at the size of the pedals,large pedal(thinking 1952 and newer)are disc, early small brake pedals are band they are about inch and a half wide easy to pick out.Do you use a mounted planter?or why are you using brakes to plant with,you dont like end rows?

Well how much would it pay to write the book?Maybe we all could get a grant take a year off work get all of the Olivers together in Iowa again and start recording facts and have our children finish.

I think those red tractors are a handfull by themselves,doubt Guy would want to tackle this problem too from the way he talks I dont think it pays to well.Ive read enough here on this board Ive decided to buy a few of his books dont know where I will keep em might have to hide em in a green binder.

Does anyone know of a parts interchange book for Oliver Fleetlines? Someone must cross reference some of the parts.
