I have 77 rowcrop with no hydraulic pump. To install one; does the platform on the top of transmission have to be changed out? Does any one have a good picture of pump already installed? These models are hard to find here in Northern Virginia.
Thanks, Va Gasman

Don't buy the one on ebay. That is a older unit.Get a series 3.Not hard to do.Just make sure the shifter is in neutral neutral before removing. Also add plenty of grease to springs before reinstalling. Please chock the wheels and set brakes.Otherwise the guys have it covered.I paid $ 175.00 with trade on my flat cover plate ( $ 100 )to a parts dealer.

We did a hydraulic conversion to an Oliver 77 that had a flat top. I remember there being a shaft in the transmission that was too long to allow the pump to drop into its place. We had to replace that shaft. And then it dropped right in. I dont think there is a problem going from a cultivator lift to a Hydro unit.

If you have a mechanical lift, that has to be removed; if you have no mechanical lift, then the top cover has to be removed (tractor pullers prize that cover, by the way!). the gearshift lever needs to come off also, BE CAREFUL, there are a couple of springs in the lever cap that can fall out.
The long PTO drive shaft (with clutch assembly) has to be pulled out from the back of the tractor.
Once you get the top cover off, check to see if the mechanical lift drive gear is present; if it is, you need to either change the transmission input shaft or you can saw off the shaft to get it out of the way.
The new hydraulic unit sits neatly in place of the mechanical lift or cover. I have attached a link to one currently for sale on E-bay (this particular one looks like maybe it is missing the pump, which of course is a highly critical part).
You might need a new shift lever, I don't remember if it is different or not.
You might also have to loosen up the dash to provide enough room to get the hyd. unit in..
If I have forgotten anything, I am sure others will come forth with advice.
The link shows the early version unit, which is appropriate for the 51 models, any unit from a 77 through 880 will work.

One thing I can think of is if you are installing the #3 hydraulic unit (the latest one) the shifter base (where those 2 springs are located in) is different. Make sure you get that shifter base along with your hydraulic unit.
