Or this may be back to plan A.
If you recall, my 2N engine needs rebuilt.
The machinist says its in poor shape, run without sleeves and the bores are Tapered, wollered and whatever else can happen to them. I momentarily found an 8N engine to rebuild, for $100.
Before the transaction happened, somebody had a friend, who had a friend, who had a friend...
That "payed $1000.00 for an 8N block"
Anyway... (I was reluctant to swap from original anyway)I hear tell of a generic sleeve and piston set but dont see them in the catalog. I think these are oversized to fit the wollered bores?
(after re-bore, of course)
Do you know where to get these? Also, what parts are needed to update the valve train?
Thanks, Tom

Re: valve train. I would say the least you need is probably new valve springs, seals, valve grinding and keepers, but if you need new valves, seats, etc. your machinist will have to tell you that. I assume that if you don't have adjustable lifters that you will go to that more modern scheme. Valve rotators are also an option, but a good idea. You should renew the timing gear and check the cam, but these N cams seem to last.

I could be wrong here and hopfully if I am I will be corrected.

The 9N used steel sleeves that were 0.040 in thich. Latter 8N used iron sleeves that were 0.090 in thick. Order these thicker sleeves and have the block bored to fit. The original pistons can then be used.

A good automotive machine shop should be able to source sleeves for you. My machinist bought my stuff from Charlotte NC from an engine parts supplier, out of a catalog, using the measurements he took.
