Got the starter rebuilt and it came with the new and improved heavy duty drive on it. Trouble is that the diameter is too big to pass between the flywheel and the bell housing. I am opening up the hole in the bell housing to resolve this. Anyone else run into this?? I have seen posts about opening up the mounting hole for other reasons.. ie. to remove stuck starters.
Thanks...

You have to grind out part of the hole on the housing, at about 1 to 2 o'clock as I recall. Also, the starter Bendix must be in the disengaged position, or you'll never get it over the ring gear. You can disengage it by spinning it on a wire wheel, or buffer.

Yep, only way to do her. I wish someone had told me before I spent 5 hours distancing me and God by cursing so much! I thought it was supposed tyo fit and that I just didn't have the right "feel". Here, feel this, I said as I went in with my Dremel tool!
