I used the wiring diagram from Neil's page and the tractor starts and runs fine. However, when I try to shut it off, it keeps running. The only thing I can imagine it the lead from P1 off the alternator is 12v hot, so it keeps running as that would put 12v to both sides of the switch while it is running. That or I have a punk alternator. One other possibility is that I didn't put in the marker light, though I can't see this being the problem.

The cook who puts too much salt in the stew should not complain that it is salty. The purpose of the marker light is to prevent what is happening to you. You can substitute a 10 Ohm 10 watt resistor from Radio Shack for the marker light. Look at my diagram for hookup.

But I LIKE salty stew, it's my wife who complains.

Seriously, thanks for the help. Teaches me to alter a diagram W/O a better understanding of what it all does.

What Claus said. Only difference is I like the marker light since it gives you a little indication of what's happening. Light on, no charge, light off, charge. YOur choice, but you need to see the light (or diode, or resistor)--your choice.
