Been noticing a bunch of references to 1947 8n's lately both on this site and others. Is there such a thing or are these typo's ?

The reference book I have says serial numbers 1 to 37907 were produced in 1947. I'm one of those 1947 8N people.

Some 1948 models(8N) were manufactured in 1947 so the dealers would have them in the showroom at the start of the model year. Not typos - just giving
the manufacture year precedence over model year.

The first 37,000 (or so) 8N's are generally considered '47 models.

July 1, 1947 was the official marketing start date for the Ford 8N. This was the final step in seperating Harry Ferguson from the Ford tractor operaton. Throughout his famous relationship with Henry Ford, it is reported that while Ford Motor Co. was losing money on the 9N/2N, Harry Ferguson was making a profit thru his exclusive ditribution agreement. In addition to this lopsided deal, Harry was building and selling his own Ferguson tractor. Henry II keen on turning this situation around disolved the earlier 'Hand Shake agreement' and continued the N series own his own. Of course with some changes. Sheading the monocromatic and boring 2N (9N) and replacing it with the new and more appealing 8N. Knowing that this move was inevitable, and prior the the release of the 8N,Ford Motor Co. developed a new prototype, the 4P. Although larger and more powerful than the 2N or 9N, only 5 prototypes were known to be developed from 1944 and 1946. Ford later scrapped idea the 4P for the less expensive 8N. Submitted for those interested. RLL The FORDSON EXCHANGE.

Everything is true that the Fordson Exchange entered. When Henry II told Fergeson that he was breaking off the Handshake Agreement, he told Harry he would supply the 2n until the end of June '47. By this Time he had the Dearborn organization set up and he had tractors ready to go. Basically what the mfr's do today. start the model year the year before at some point. Now you know what we know. Amazing, all this knowledge and I did not have to learn it all by myself..
